Computer Science (Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, Database Systems)
What Is Computer Science (Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, Database Systems)?
Computer Science is the study of computers—mostly the design and application of software. Sound boring? Well, it isn’t! The field has to keep up with what’s happening and needed in the world—cool stuff like artificial intelligence, the security of important and private information, computers that can understand human speech, computer programs that can make robots more like real people, and ways to make really cool games that you can play when you’re not studying.
Of course, being a computer scientist is not all fun and games; there is serious work being done in the field, and to do all of it you need to be able to do abstract mathematical thinking to develop the algorithms needed, and also be able to translate those algorithms into tangible applications. You need to be ready to learn new things every day in order to keep up with what’s happening in the technology world. If that’s your thing, and you’re good at math, here are some possible jobs: Software Developer, Database Administrator, Social Media Analyst, Computer Network Architect, Web Developer, and Information Security Analyst.
