Political Science
What Is Political Science?
Political Science looks at how governments, politics, and power work at the local, state, national, and international levels. How do people decide what political groups to associate with, and how do various political groups and countries interact with each other? Political science looks back over history to figure out what principals guided various societies. This is a field that today seems to create controversy and get more and more attention in our country—there’s always some breaking news about what’s happening with the government or with certain politicians.
So, you may be curious about how you could fit into the field. Do you want to run for political office someday? Or have your eye on going into a high-level government job? Do you want to understand better what’s happening in the world? Or maybe be a lawyer for a multi-national firm? Do you keep your finger on the pulse of what’s happening in your community and like to be someone in the know? Are there some causes that you care about, like saving an historical landmark or putting bike lanes on certain streets, and are you willing to put yourself out there? If so, there are lots of varied careers to check out, like CIA Intelligence Officer, Political Scientist, Lobbyist, Public Relations Specialist, Policy Analyst, Legislative Assistant, Public Relations Specialist, Market Research Analyst, Political Pollster, Journalist, Newscaster, or College Teacher.
