Political Science (BA)

What is A Political Science (BA) Degree?

Political Science looks at how governments and politics work at the local, state, national, and international levels. Political science looks back over history to figure out what principals guided various societies. This is a field that today seems to create controversy and get more and more attention—there’s always some breaking news about what’s happening with the government or with certain politicians.  To get a significant position in the field you’ll probably need a graduate degree of some kind; in fact, many people applying to law school earn the BA in Political Science.

With the BA you may want to consider working in budget analysis, public relations, or political research in an entry-level job.  Coursework for the BA degree will include topics like American national government, comparative political systems, world politics, political theory, and you may be able to focus on one area of the field to specialize, depending on your interests.  The program is likely to be heavy with writing assignments, so be ready to do a lot of reading and writing.

The video below discusses a “typical” program, so it should help regardless of which school you are considering.
