Chemical Technology (AAS)

What is A Chemical Technology (AAS) Degree?

Chemistry is the study of the structure and properties of matter– anything that you could physically touch.  Chemical Technologists work with chemists and chemical engineers to design, test, or manufacture chemical products.  They may work in chemical and drug production or at research labs, oil companies, government agencies, paint manufacturers, or medical facilities.

Earning an AAS degree in Chemical Technology is the most common way to be involved in the field as a technologist.  You’ll take courses in chemistry, algebra, physics, and computer science, and do lots of lab work. You’ll also study safe laboratory procedures and instrument techniques. One or more practicum experiences in the field will probably be required during the second year of study.  Some programs may have a specialty in forensic lab testing, which you’d might be interested in if you like to watch crime shows on TV.
