What is A Computer Science, Computer Information Systems (BS) Degree?

Computer Science is the study of computers—mostly the design and application of software.  The field has to keep up with what’s happening and needed in the world—cool stuff like artificial intelligence, the security of important and private information, computers that can understand human speech, computer programs that can make robots more like real people, and ways to make different games.

A BS degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS) trains students how to use technology to solve typical business-related problems, so the degree may include some business courses.  Computer Science areas that will be studied include computer programming, database management systems, and network architecture and security.  The BS degree prepares students for entry-level jobs in CIS.  To advance to the management level, you’ll likely need significant work experience plus an MS degree in CIS. This degree is a good place to start.
