English, Creative Writing (BA)

What is A English, Creative Writing (BA) Degree?

Most people who study for the BA degree in English learn about linguistics: words, sentences, meanings, phonetics, phonology, and the patterns of sounds in the language.  Plus, they also study literature of both English and American writers, and they learn how to write logically. They’ll cover how to analyze and interpret all kinds of literature from different periods in history.

In a BA program in Creative Writing, students focus not only on writing accurate logical prose, but also on how to compose creative literature that may involve writing strange, unique, interesting, persuasive, heart-warming, or even scary stories.  Coursework in a Creative Writing BA program will involve, in addition to general education, studying short stories, poetry, drama, and novels.  It may even include a course or two in public relations, journalism, or marketing since many writers want to be able to sell their own work.

The video below discusses a “typical” program, so it should help regardless of which school you are considering.
