Diagnostic Medical Sonography (AS)

What is A Diagnostic Medical Sonography (AS) Degree?

Diagnostic medical sonography provides a non-invasive way to develop 2D and 3D images of the body using ultrasound devices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. It’s become especially important to treat heart and vascular disease.   Associate degree students will learn the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology and how to operate the sonography equipment and document the results.  They’ll also participate in several practicums in the field in the second year of training.

The Associate’s degree training is the most common level among Sonographers and is, in many areas, sufficient for certification with a passing score on any required exam.  However, the bachelor’s degree is becoming the required level of education required in many regions, and that trend is expanding.
