Accounting (BS)

What is An Accounting (BS) Degree?

With a BS in Accounting you’ll be able to maintain the financial records of a business, keeping their books and records and preparing their business statements that show how well the company is doing.  In a BS program, in addition to general education courses, you’ll take basic business courses—accounting, finance, marketing, management, and finance, followed by more specified work in cost accounting and government accounting.

You’ll also learn Information Technology as it relates to the field.  It may be possible for you to specialize in something like auditing or government accounting if things like that are of interest.  It’s possible that a specialization like this could improve your employment opportunities in that particular subfield of accounting.

The video below discusses a “typical” program, so it should help regardless of which school you are considering.
