What is A Fashion Merchandising (BS) Degree?

Fashion Merchandising is the business side of the fashion industry; this is the side that figures out how to distribute fashion products to stores and how to market and sell them successfully.  Fashion merchandisers figure out what trends will be in the upcoming season, buy the clothing in the proper quantities, and then help the retailers advertise and sell the products, keeping the right array of clothing articles on hand.

Students in Fashion Merchandising BS degree programs study topics like predicting fashion trends, buying and controlling stock levels, display design and placement, and selling.  Some programs include a practicum or intern experience to practice skills in a retail establishment.
