What is A Cardiovascular Perfusion (BS) Degree?

Cardiovascular Perfusion is the specialty in the health field that uses a heart-lung machine to keep a patient’s heart and lungs functioning during cardiac surgeries (by-pass, open-heart, and heart transplants).

To complete a BS degree in Cardiovascular Perfusion, students study human anatomy & physiology, organic chemistry, and physics followed by cardiovascular-related courses in basic surgery, cardiac anatomy & physiology, cardiovascular pharmacology, cardiology, and cardiovascular pathology.  Perfusion technology is covered and basic and advanced perfusion devices and labs are included. Students also will have several practicum experiences in which they will perfect their skills and perform actual perfusions.
