What is A Cybersecurity (BS) Degree?

Cybersecurity involves protecting systems, networks, and programs, guarding them against cyberattacks in which perpetrators attempt to gain access to and possible steal important data and information.  Bad guys may use the information to extort money from victims and can wreak havoc with companies, organizations, and individuals’ lives.

The BS degree in Cybersecurity will prepare you to help protect your organization from these cyberattacks by covering, in addition to general education, a broad overview of how Information Technology is managed in business organizations with courses in the fundamentals, applications, and project management. You’ll then move on to more specific courses in web and cloud security, scripting and programming, digital forensics, cyber law, hacking techniques and countermeasures, and other related subjects.  You’ll probably be required to complete a significant capstone project toward the end of the program in which you’ll demonstrate all that you have learned to solve a challenging cyber security breach.  Some employers may require you to attain a Master’s degree in the field after gaining some work experience.
