What is A cosmetology Certification?

The field of Cosmetology is all about hair, skin, cosmetics, and nails and procedures to make them beautiful. A certificate program in cosmetology will train you how to do hair cutting, styling, coloring, and highlighting as well as facials, manicures, and pedicures. Sanitation and sterilization may also be covered, and specialized training in hair braiding, extensions and relaxers and various eyebrow techniques may also be covered.  You’ll probably have an opportunity to practice on real clients after you have had a good portion of the training.

Depending on where you live it might be necessary to have a license to be a cosmetologist; so be sure that your certificate has enough training hours for you to sit for the licensing exam in your location. The job outlook looks good for Cosmetology for the next few years because many stylists with up-to-date techniques are getting close to retirement.  You’ll find jobs titles like Hair Stylist, Nail Technician, Specialty Beauty Advisor, or Eyebrow Threader.
