What is A Human Development and Family Studies (BS) Degree?

The field of Human Development and Family Studies takes a multi-disciplinary approach to looking at the interrelationships between individuals, families, and communities. It pulls from many different areas, most of which are in the social sciences.  People in the field look at individuals and families by studying their relationships, culture, gender, and ages as they pass through various life stages.

With the BS in Human Development and Family Studies you’ll be prepared to work in numerous human service-oriented organizations like rehabilitation centers, childcare facilities, aging and disability services, and residential treatment programs.  Coursework, in addition to general education, will include subject areas like these:  biology, life span in development of humans, child development of infants and toddlers, marriage and family, statistical methods, addiction, and divorce.  Advanced courses will be in subjects like family law and juvenile delinquency, and several concentrations may be available for you to choose from.
